How to bypass the ‘thought police’

The other day, a client was commenting on the techniques we use at Lucid to get people to drop their guard and give us their true, un-thought-through reactions to things

– which put me in mind of this great video I found not long ago.  It’s a great film in its own right – well worth the watch in spite of its length just for the joy of it and how it makes us, as adults, think again.

It also struck me as a great illustration of why the techniques we use are so important in consumer workshop situations.  Getting people to complete tasks quickly (but with the right guidance), and using movement and ‘play’ both enables and encourages them to respond more naturally, which in turn gets us a much clearer read on their natural responses – before they get the chance to verbally rationalise or self-censor.
